A pair of losses sandwiching a win summarizes the Lady Goblins of Harrison over the weekend in the Ozarks Softball Classic.
Harrison began the event opposite Camden Fairview and were pushed to the losers bracket after a 4-2 loss. The Lady Goblins rallied in their Saturday morning game for a 7-5 win against Fort Smith Southside before ending their day with a 7-4 loss against Rogers Heritage.
Consolation Finals
Rogers Heritage 7, Harrison 4
The Lady Goblins continued their momentum early in their final game of the tournament but later cooled off as they dropped the consolation finals game against Rogers Heritage, 7-4.
Kayton Bell led off the game for Harrison by getting on base and teammate Claire Cecil popped a one-out fly ball to right field that drove Bell home for the First Lady Goblin run of the game.
Rogers Heritage had Harrison in a hole early by posting two runs in the first and another in the second.
Harrison collected three runs in the second beginning with Eliana Warner scoring after reaching on a double. Bell added her second run of the game after driving in Warner and Katelyn Flemming crossed home to give the Lady Goblins a 4-3 lead after two innings.
That proved to be the only runs for Harrison while Rogers Heritage added two more in the third and another two in the fifth to send the Lady Goblins home with a loss.
Ryleigh Keele took the loss in the circle allowing seven runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts.
Bell’s two runs led the offense while Fleming and Warner had one apiece.
Consolation Semifinals
Harrison 7, Fort Smith Southside 5
The Lady Goblins took the lead with a big second inning and held off a late surge by Fort Smith Southside to earn a 7-5 win and advance to the consolation finals.
Southside struck first and owned a 1-0 lead after the first inning.
Harrison responded by holding their opponent scoreless in the second and collecting six runs.
Cecil scored the first run of the day followed by Keele, Alexis Norris and Kennedi Campbell reaching to load the bases. Shelby Eddington got the home fans cheering with a deep double that scored all three runners. Eddington later scored off a fielder’s choice from Bell. Bell added the final Harrison run of the inning to make it a 6-1 score through two innings.
Southside added one run in the third and ended their offense with three runs in the fourth.
Harrison got one run in the fourth when Fleming reached on a single and was driven in by a base hit by Wolfe.
Keele was in the circle and earned the win by allowing five runs on four hits with eight strikeouts.
Bell, Fleming, Cecil, Keele, Norris, Campbell and Eddington accounted for all seven Harrison runs with one apiece.
Opening Round
Camden Fairview 4, Harrison 2
It was a slow start for Harrison in the tournament. Camden Fairview took the lead early and gave the Lady Goblins a 4-2 loss.
In the top of the fourth inning, Harrison faced a 3-0 deficit.
Eddington took a base after a single, and a double by Bell drove in Harrison’s first run of the game.
Camden Fairview got the run back in the bottom of the fifth and the Lady Goblins were down by a 4-1 mark with their last opportunity coming in the sixth to make up the difference.
Norris began the seventh with a hit toward the shortstop and took first after a fielding error. Two outs later, Bell earned her second RBI of the day with a double that drove in Norris. Flemming was able to add another runner to the base path, but both runners were left stranded at the conclusion of the game.
Keele took the pitching loss allowing four runs on four hits with five strikeouts.
Eddington and Norris shared Harrison’s two runs.
