GENTRY — Harrison’s Lady Goblins began the softball season with a pair of wins followed by a pair of losses. Then came a string of three convincing wins including the conference opener against Berryville.
The followup game added another notch to the loss column on Thursday evening after a trip to Gentry ended with a 7-6 defeat.
Harrison watched Gentry put two runs on the scoreboard in the second and another two in the third while the Lady Goblins left four runners stranded during the stretch.
The Lady Pioneers added one more run in the third with a solo homer and Harrison was in a 5-0 hole to begin the fifth inning. The Lady Goblins tied the game quickly with five of the next six batters reaching and working their way around the bases. Kaylee Wolfe scored the first run after getting her second hit of the game. Camryn Casey provided the second score following a double and getting hit in by an Abigail Fancler single. Harrison made it a 5-3 game when Shelby Eddington’s first at bat produced a RBI. With Eddington on base, Ryleigh Keele tied the game at five apiece with a two-run home run to swing momentum.
Harrison was able to get Lexi Norris on base with a single followed by Kennedi Campbell reaching on a single but both runners were left stranded after a pair fly outs.
Gentry responded with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Trailing by a 7-5 score in the sixth, Harrison made a push with Katelyn Flemming reaching after a base on balls before working her way to third and later scoring on a Gentry fielding error. The Lady Goblins were unable to find another run the rest of the way and the Lady Pioneers came away with the one-run win.
Keele took the loss on the mound after allowing seven runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts.
Wolfe, Casey, Fancler, Eddington, Keele and Fleming provided one run apiece for the Harrison squad.
Wolfe and Keele finished with two hits each while Casey and Eddington had one apiece. Keele drove in two runs and Fancler and Eddington had one RBI apiece.
