A 2-0 start to the season leading up to the first home game was a good backdrop for Friday night’s game at F.S. Garrison Stadium against Siloam Springs.
A rowdy crowd watched their home-team Goblins make the big plays in the fourth quarter and Harrison ended their non-conference slate with a 3-0 showing after a 35-31 win against the Panthers.
The Goblins trailed by a 31-28 score with 7:02 remaining in the contest and turned to a heavy passing attack to get the ball down the field. Logan Plumlee connected with fellow senior Sloan Barrett for a 33-yard strike to get past midfield. Plumlee then made a short pass to Talon Stephens. After breaking tackles and falling forward with his momentum, Stephens dove across the goal line to put the Goblins ahead, 34-31.
Brock Bardwell hit the PAT and the 35-31 score with 6:37 left in the game was all but in the books.
Bardwell boomed the kickoff into the end zone and Siloam Springs fought back over 10 plays to get the ball to the 50-yard line. Four-straight incompletions against a stingy Harrison secondary forced a turnover on downs to give Harrison the ball with 2:18 remaining. The Panther timeouts were ineffective after Brodey Gilliam broke loose around the defense for a first down that sealed the win. Plumlee took the victory formation the rest of the way and the Goblins finished the game with fireworks in the background.
Gilliam scored the first touchdown of the night and Harrison owned a 7-6 advantage at the first break. Siloam Springs scored twice in the second period but Plumlee hit Dylan Block just before halftime on a seven-yard pass. Harrison trailed at intermission, 19-14.
Plumlee added another score when he completed with Kaden Quandt to start the third period but Siloam continued to punch right back. Beck Jones scored to start the fourth period and Barrett completed the two-point conversion on a pass to Plumlee to make it a 28-25 Harrison lead. Siloam Springs took the lead back on a long passing play before Harrison scored the final points to seal the win.
Harrison will have a week off before beginning their run for a fifth-straight 5A-West title when they host Farmington on Sept. 24.
