The Lady Goblins softball team scored every possible way they could on Thursday to keep the season alive against Berryville in the 4A-1 District Tournament.
Cavender’s Field had plenty of excitement as the Harrison team finished with a 10-0 victory against the Lady Bobcats after five innings.
After retiring the side in order during the top of the first inning against Berryville, Harrison quickly affected the scoreboard when Kamran Bell was walked and then moved to third with a hit by teammate Camryn Casey. A sacrifice fly coming from Daizie Riggs sent Bell home and gave the Lady Goblins a 1-0 lead at the end of the first.
Berryville’s Ava O’Gorek earned a one-out double in the second with a hard hit to the wall in right field but was left stranded as Harrison’s Ryleigh Keele retired the next two batters by strikeouts.
Harrison added another two runs in the second inning. Kaylee Wolfe hit a single and then scored when Keele dropped a hit down the right line for a triple. Keele later scored when Bell stroked a shot to the gap in right-center field for a single.
Berryville stopped the damage when senior Lora Grace Hill reeled in a catch at deep center field to end the second frame.
Harrison took a 3-0 lead into the third and made quick work on defense. The Lady Goblins only allowed Berryville’s Emma Hall to reach on a walk before leaving the Lady Bobcat stranded after three outs.
Harrison scored three runs in the bottom of the third before ever recording an out. Riggs hit a single to center and was driven home by a double from Claire Cecil. Cecil worked her way home when Shelby Eddington reached on a dropped ball in right field before later scoring the last run of the inning to give Harrison a 6-0 lead entering the fourth.
Berryville’s Maci Roy and O’Gorek each earned hits to start the fourth but both runners were left on base as Keele struck out her fourth hitter of the game to put the bats back in the hands of Harrison.
It didn’t take long for the Lady Goblins to strike again. Casey took to bat with one out and connected early in the count for a solo home run that sailed over the centerfield wall. Casey was met at home plate by the entire Lady Goblins squad as the junior centerfielder made it a 7-0 lead.
Harrison needed three runs in the bottom of the fifth to put the game away and they got it from the next three runners.
Eddington reached on a grounder up the middle and Abigail Fancler followed in similar fashion to send Eddington rounding the bases toward home. With an 8-0 lead, Wolfe was hit by a pitch to put runners at the corners. Keele then earned her third hit of the game by lining a shot past the third baseman which scored Fancler and Wolfe to end the game, 10-0.
Harrison’s bats were led by Keele’s three RBI. Riggs knocked in two runs while Bell, Cecil, Eddington and Fancler had one RBI each.
Eddington and Wolfe scored two runs apiece. Bell, Casey, Riggs, Cecil, Fancler and Keele each crossed home plate once.
Keele earned the win in the circle allowing zero runs on three hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
