The final home game of the regular season at Jack Williams Field was to determine the fate of the top seeds in league play for the 4A-1.
Having defeated Farmington earlier in the season, a win over Shiloh Christian on Thursday would’ve given Harrison the outright conference title. The Saints put up three runs in the top of the second inning to make sure that didn’t happen. Instead, Shiloh Christian withheld a late rally in the bottom of the seventh to post a 4-2 win.
The results of the game put the Saints second in the race with Farmington getting the top nod and Harrison third.
Three walked batters in the top of the second inning all found their way around the bases for Shiloh Christian and the Saints held a 3-0 lead until adding another run in the top of the fourth.
Harrison’s fate came down to the bottom of the seventh inning.
Logan Plumlee began the Goblin offense with a hit followed by Sloan Barrett getting walked. Tyler Hutcheson then put down a bunt along the left line that never warranted a throw but did warrant a Shiloh Christian visit to the mound for a new pitcher.
The Saints then struck out a batter before walking Noah Moix for a run and then walking Cole Keylon to send Barrett home for the second score.
With ducks on the pond, Harrison then awaited another mound visit from the Saints and the third pitcher of the inning.
Dylan Block then stepped into the batter’s box with the potential winning run at first base. After getting hit by a pitch that was called a technicality, the at bat later resulted in the second out with Breckin Duck on deck.
Duck faced a two-two count after fouling off three pitches before a high fly ball dropped into the third-baseman’s glove to end the game.
Cy Madden started the game for Harrison and went 1.0 innings with no hits and three runs allowed with two strikeouts and three walks. Block threw the remainder of the game allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
Harrison will begin district play on Wednesday at 5 p.m when they host Gentry at Jack Williams Field.
