Early runs contributed to a short game at Cavender’s Field on Monday afternoon.
Harrison’s softball team made quick work of Huntsville in four innings. The Lady Goblins improved to a 14-7 record on the season and 6-1 in league play after defeating the Lady Eagles, 16-1.
In the first three innings, Huntsville was limited to just two baserunners and neither were able to get past second base before ending the inning stranded.
Harrison stayed busy by sending three runners around the bases in the opening frame and another eight Lady Goblins reached home plate in the second.
Daizie Riggs earned two RBI in the first inning with a double into left field that scored Kayton Bell and Camryn Casey. Riggs then scored on a sacrifice by Shelby Eddington.
Harrison’s 3-0 lead turned into an 11-0 advantage after two innings.
The eight-run surge began with Kaylee Wolfe hitting a deep shot over the centerfielder and then scored on a sacrifice fly to left field from Alexis Norris.
Harrison scored the a slew of runs before Huntsville could get the second out.
Bell reached on a hit to left-center fielding then Fleming reached on an error when Huntsville’s outfielders slammed into each other trying to catch a fly ball.
The next four Harrison batters were walked before Abigail Fancler hit a double to left field that scored Riggs and Claire Cecil. Eddington made it a 10-0 lead when Wolfe hit a RBI pop fly to the outfield.
Norris was then walked and Bell hit a single through the infield that scored Fancler and gave Harrison an 11-0 lead after two innings.
Casey scored her third run of the game in the third inning but proved to be the only scored of the inning.
Huntsville got their lone run in the fourth inning but the Lady Goblins responded in quick fashion.
Wolfe earned a hit before Norris and Belle each reached on fielding errors. All three runners would later score including the final run from Fleming to end the contest.
Bell and Casey each led the offense with three runs in the game. Fleming, Riggs and Wolfe scored two apiece and Cecil, Eddington, Kennedi Campbell and Norris one each.
Harrison host Valley Springs on Thursday at 5 p.m.
