After a 3-4 start to the season, Harrison’s baseball team went on a streak of 11-straight wins as they hit the meat of the schedule.
On Friday afternoon at Jack Williams Field, the Goblins’ string of victories was ended at the hands of Russellville. The Cyclones only allowed Harrison to round the bases in one inning as the Goblins suffered a 7-3 defeat.
Once the field was prepared after a burst of rain on Friday, the two teams began play.
Both teams were scoreless in the opening inning and Russellville hit the books first with two runs in the top of the second. The Cyclones took advantage of two hits and a sacrifice fly before Harrison was able to end the visitor’s momentum with defensive execution to leave runners stranded on the corners.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Goblins made their move offensively. Tyler Hutcheson hit first and smacked a line drive to left field for a single. Beck Jones followed with a hit to the same spot and sent Hutcheson to second. With Trey Richardson pinch running for Jones, Noah Moix laid down a well-executed bunt down the left line that never warranted a Russellville throw.
With two outs, Breckin Duck powered a grounder to the shortstop. Duck earned two RBI when the throw to first was high and sent Hutcheson and Richardson in to score. Moix later scored on a passed ball to give Harrison a 3-2 lead after three innings.
Russellville wasn’t fazed and scored four-straight runs with no outs to begin the fourth inning before Cole Keylon came into the game and retired three batters on 15 pitches with one strikeout.
The Cyclones took their 6-3 lead all the way to the final inning after staving off a Goblin rally in the bottom of the six by leaving Harrison with three runners stranded.
One run in the top of the seventh for Russellville and Harrison going three up and three down in the bottom ended the game.
Harrison’s three runs during the loss on Friday were credited to Hutcheson, Richardson and Moix.
The loss moves Harrison to a 14-5 record and a 4-0 conference mark. On Monday evening, the Goblins hosted Prairie Grove in 4A-1 action.
