It was a windy event on Senior Night for Harrison in baseball and softball.

The baseball squad was able to withhold a late comeback from Farmington and finish with a 9-8 win.

It was a different story on the softball diamond as the Lady Goblins were defeated in five innings, 10-0.

Senior Boys

Harrison’s productivity came early and Farmington found its late as the Goblins were able to hold on to a 9-8 conference win.

The Goblins entered the bottom of the first inning trailing 1-0.

Trey Richardson and Cole Keylon reached on back-to-back at bats for Harrison with one out. Senior Carson Journagan was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. After fouling off a pair of pitches, Breckin Duck then dropped a one-two pitch into a small gap in center field to score Richardson and advance all the runners to keep the bases loaded. Tyler Hutchinson then came into the ballgame as a pinch runner for Duck.

With the score tied at 1-1, Thailer Lovell sent a blooper into centerfield for a single that drove in Keylon and Journagan.

With Hutchinson at second and Lovell at first base, freshman Dylan Block sent the ball into the gap in left-center field for an easy single that loaded the bases again. That put Cy Madden in the batters box. Madden grounded out to the first baseman but earned an RBI to put Hutchinson across home plate to give the Goblins a 4-1 advantage before the first inning came to an end.

Farmington added another run in the second inning to get within, down 4-2.

Richardson began the second frame for Harrison by getting hit by the first pitch. Keylon followed with a bunt single that never warranted a throw to first. Journagan then hit a hard grounder to the second baseman that resulted in an error. The error scored Richardson and moved Keylon to third to give the Goblins a 5-2 edge.

With runners on the corner and Duck in the batters box, Journagan successfully stole second base while Keylon stole home during the shuffle. Duck was then walked. Journagan stole third base next before being driven home by Lovell after a pop fly to center field.

The second inning ended with Harrison holding a 7-2 lead.

Farmington was held scoreless in the third. Harrison added another run after Tanner Taylor was walked and then stole second before being driven home by a double into right-center field from Keylon.

Harrison’s final run came in the bottom of the fourth. Duck was walked and Hutchinson came in to pinch run. Hutchinson then reached second base on a throwing error and advanced to third after a well-placed bunt by Lovell.

With two outs, Madden sent a high-fly ball to right field and Hutchinson scored after tagging up to put Harrison ahead, 9-2.

The Cardinals hit a two-run homer in the fifth to get within, 9-4. Harrison looked to put away the game in the top of the seventh inning. Farmington added four runs in the final inning but the game ended when Harrison’s Keaton Brown fielded a ground ball in leftfield and rifled a throw to Journagan at third base to tag out a Cardinal runner.

“It was good to find a way to win,” said Goblin head coach Greg Crow. “Really proud of our kids, we played really well for five innings and started well. We are getting closer, we just have to keep working and put a whole game together. Give Farmington a lot of credit for not quitting when we had them down. They are going to be dangerous down the road.”

Richardson, Keylon, Journagan and Hutchinson all scored two runs with Taylor adding one.

Lovell knocked in three runs in the contest. Duck finished with two RBI, Keylon, Journagan and Madden added one each.

Journagan stole two bases and Taylor, Hutchinson and Lovell swiped one apiece.

Duck got the win on the mound pitching 6.0 innings. He allowed five runs on six hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

Keylon pitched 0.1 innings allowing four runs on four hits and one walk.

Shaver earned the save in .2 innings allowing one hit and struck out one batter.

Senior Girls

A windy Senior Night on Cavender’s Field didn’t bode well for the Lady Goblins as they were handed a 10-0 defeat at the hands of the Lady Cardinals of Farmington in conference play.

Harrison was held scoreless as Farmington scored one run in the first inning before scoring five in the third, one in the fourth and three more in the fifth.

Junior Claire Curtis was the only Lady Goblin to reach base in the ballgame after being walked.

Caroline Cecil suffered the loss in the pitcher’s circle allowing 10 runs on eight hits while striking out three batters and walking six.
