A good start doesn’t always end with a win.

Harrison took an early lead, but a strong third inning by the Lady Blackhawks of Pea Ridge resulted in the Lady Goblins being handed a 3-2 loss in 4A-1 action.

Harrison jumped on the scoreboard first at Cavender’s Field when freshman Kaylee Wolfe reached on a single up the middle and stole her way all the way around the bases to put the Lady Goblins ahead, 1-0, in the first inning.

However, it would be six innings later before Harrison would change the scoreboard again in its favor.

Pea Ridge took advantage of fielding errors and passed balls while adding three runs in the top of the third inning to take a 3-1 lead.

Wolfe and Shayne Gilliam added singles apiece in the fifth inning while Lexi Norris was walked to load the bases. Starting pitcher Caroline Cecil entered the batter’s box, but was unable to produce runs when a fly out ended the inning.

Cecil struck out a batter in every inning of the contest and sent two batters to the dugout on missed swings in the top of the seventh while retiring the final batter on a fly ball.

Harrison entered the bottom of the seventh inning trailing 3-1.

The team began to put runners on base.

Gilliam reached on a single followed with a single by Wolfe to advance Gilliam to second. Lexi Norris then hit a double into left-center field to score Gilliam and send Wolfe to third. Cecil was then walked to load the bases for the Lady Goblins. With the tying run on third and the go-ahead runner on second, Harrison then closed the game with a strikeout by the Pea Ridge pitcher to end the game with a 3-2 loss.

Wolfe and Gilliam were Harrison’s two runs to cross the plate.

Wolfe finished the day with three hits. Gilliam added two hits and Cecil, Ty Whitehorse and Sam Fancler one apiece. Cecil and Norris each recorded a RBI each.

Cecil suffered the loss on the mound allowing three runs on three hits with nine strikeouts.

Harrison plays Gravette on Tuesday in conference action and travel for the Van Buren Tournament on Saturday with games beginning at 11:30 a.m.
