PEA RIDGE — Big Sugar wasn’t a sweet momma to the Class 4A girl golfers on Tuesday.

However, the Harrison Lady Goblins are just fine with the course. Harrison finished the day with a 318, but it was good enough to earn the team the state runner-up trophy at the Big Sugar Country Club in Pea Ridge.

“I am extremely proud of the way the girls fought and battled all day,” said Harrison coach Don Price. “They hung in there all day.”

That tenacity resulted in the team finishing in second place on a very difficult course. Nashville won the title with a 301.

The medalist was Meghan Lindsey of Magnolia. She was the only person to shoot in the 70s. She had a 73 to win the event by nine-strokes.

There were six players that shot in the 80s. Berryville’s McKayla Hussey was the runner-up medalist. The senior Lady Bobcat shot an 82 to earn All-State honors.

Only one player shot in the 90s and more than 60 players shot in the 100s.

“It was a very difficult course,” stated Price. “It is the hardest course that we have been on for a state tournament either in the boys or in the girls.”

Harrison was led by Thea Norcross. She shot a 102 on the day. It was good enough to earn her All-State honors.

Halle Marseilles was the second Lady Goblin finisher. She had a 107. Riley Richardson was the third finisher for Harrison and the last score to count. She had a 109.

Ellakaye Spry shot a 113 for the Lady Goblins.

The Lady Goblins entire team which also includes Alexa Ramsey-Shaddox and Jada Johnson are comprised of sophomores and freshmen. Norcross was the only player returning from last year’s team.

“At the beginning of the year, we didn’t have any expectations,” said Price. “We just wanted to learn to play the game and learn how to work hard at it.

“This is an unbelievable thing,” he said about the second place finish. “They came on at the end of the season and had a lot of success.”
