HARRISON BATS GET BLOWN AWAY BY CYCLONES

RUSSELLVILLE — It was a cold day on the baseball diamond as the Harrison Goblins traveled over the mountain to face Russellville. The Cyclones are one of the three Class 6A schools that have been moved into the 6A/5A-1 blended conference. Harrison dropped its game with Russellville, 6-1. Coming into the contest, the two schools have each earned a state title in the last three seasons. Russellville was the Class 6A title holder in 2014 and Harrison won the 5A title in 2015. With the loss, the Goblins drop to 0-4 on the season. The game was scoreless headed into the bottom of the fifth inning. Russellville would get three walks followed by a hit-by-pitch to get the Cyclones’ offense going. All but one walk came with two outs in the inning. Three extra-base hits later, Russellville held a 6-0 lead. The Goblins pushed a single run across the plate in the top of the sixth. Thailer Lovell reached base on a walk and then stole second base. A single to right field by senior Quinn Cherry scored Lovell to make it a 6-1 ballgame. Harrison got a lead-off single from Carson Journagan in the top of the seventh, but Russellville would retire the next three batters to take the win. The Goblins collected four hits in the ballgame with Lovell, Cherry, Tanner Taylor and Journagan picking up one apiece. Lovell scored the lone run for Harrison while Cherry picked up the lone RBI. After dropping their season opener to Gravette, 8-4, the Goblins have fallen to Bentonville West, 14-4, and then to Siloam Springs 10-2. Against Siloam Springs, the Goblins scored the first two runs of the game before giving up 10 unanswered runs. Siloam Springs scored four in the bottom of the first inning to take a 4-2 lead. The Panthers then pushed a run across in the second; three in the third; and one each in the fourth and fifth innings. The Goblins are 0-2 in conference play. Harrison’s next game will be Friday night in the Ozarks Classic Baseball Tournament held at the Equity Bank Sports Complex.
