GREENBRIER — Harrison’s two leading scorers didn’t score until late in the second period and in the third period.

That showed how balanced the Lady Goblins are as they cruised to a 53-37 win over Alma in the finals of the 5A-West District Tournament that was held Friday night at Greenbrier High School.

The Lady Goblins took the lead late in the second period and never gave it back.

With the score knotted at 16-16, Brylie Parker hit back-to-back buckets to close the first half with the Lady Goblins leading 20-16.

Mckenzie Glenn, who opened the game with the first eight Harrison points, including six on two treys, scored on an offensive putback to boast the Lady Goblin lead to six points.

Alma would then score the next five points, but Harrison held the Airedalettes scoreless over the next 3 minutes. During that time, the Lady Goblins hit the nets for nine straight points.

Glenn started the run that was followed by an Alicia Auman trey. Peri Knight hit a bucket as Parker finished the run with two free throws to give Harrison a 31-21 run.

Harrison led, 32-25, entering the last quarter.

Alma opened the period with a bucket to pull within five points, but Auman scored before Parker had a steal and a layup and then added a free throw.

The Airedalettes hit a trey to stay close, but the Lady Goblins scored the next seven points with Due getting four of those and Auman draining another trey.

With 2:41 left in the game, the Airedalettes pulled within ten at 44-34 and then with 1:48 left they were within eight. However, the Lady Goblins scored the last eight points of the game to seal the championship.

With the victory, the Lady Goblins received the first place seed from the conference for the Class 5A State Basketball Tournament that is being held in Magnolia.

The Lady Goblins will face Paragould in their first game at 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Should the team win, they will face the winner of the Pulaski Academy and Hot Springs Lakeside winner on Friday at 7 p.m.

The Friday winner will advance to the semifinals and play at 6 p.m. on Saturday night.

Leading Harrison in scoring was Auman with 15 points. Glenn chipped in with 12, Parker 11, Due eight and Knight seven.
