CROWDER COLLEGE PICKS CHERRY FROM HARRISON

The Harrison Goblin baseball program has placed another player in the college ranks. This past Monday, Goblin senior Quinn Cherry signed his letter-of-intent to play baseball for the Crowder College Roughriders. Cherry has been an integral part of the Goblins success, including the 2015 run to the Class 5A State Championship, which is the proudest moment of Cherry’s baseball career. “My proudest moment of being a Goblin would be helping my baseball team win the State Championship in 2015,” he stated. After his senior season, Cherry will be taking his game to Crowder where he hopes to be a big part of that program’s success as well. “Crowder has a great reputation for further developing players, sending them onto the next level and into pro ball,” he said of his decision to sign with the school. “The classes are developed to help their students succeed and the coaches truly care about their players.” While at Crowder, Cherry is unsure of what he’ll major in, but he does have some thoughts on what he may lean towards. “My first couple of semesters I will be knocking out my core classes and preparing myself for the future academically,” he said of the outlook of his future. As far as what he hopes to do after his time in school, he has a few ideas. “Hopefully, still playing baseball,” he told. “But, if not, staying in the sports genre in the field of marketing or broadcasting.” While at Crowder, Cherry could find himself playing any position on the field. “They feel as if I am athletic enough to play anywhere,” Cherry told. “They want me to step in my first year and make an immediate impact.” During his time as a Goblin, Cherry says two things stick out as what he has learned the most, saying, “Stay humble and take scholastics seriously.” Leaving the familiar confines of Harrison High School for a new school in Neosho, Mo., there are things Cherry will miss. “I will miss my friends, family, coaches, teachers and all the supportive fellow Goblins,” said Cherry. Finally, Cherry has a lot of people to thank for their support and encouragement to get him to the next level. “I would like to thank all of my coaches — Greg Crow, Greg Cross, Matt Rodden and Kelly Pillow. I also would like to thank the Midwest Nationals baseball organization located in Springfield, Mo. and their coaches Dave Bingham and Randy Merryman. “Most importantly, I would like to thank my mom and dad, Bill and Nicole Cherry, for hauling me across the country for baseball on this journey while being very supportive.”
