CABOT — It’s been 12 years since the Harrison golf teams won both the boys and girls district tournaments.

Harrison ended that streak while continuing another on Wednesday at Mountain Springs Golf Course at Greystone Country Club.

The Harrison Goblins won their 12th consecutive district title while the Harrison Lady Goblins also brought home a district championship.

The Goblins shot a team score of 359 to defeat second-place Greenbrier who shot a 369. Alma posted a 371 as the final team to qualify for the Class 5A State Tournament.

In girls play, the Lady Goblins shot a 332 to edge Maumelle with a 335. Farmington finished third with a 337.

“When we first started our boys streak of district titles 12 years ago, that was the last time we won both the boys and girls titles,” Harrison coach Don Price stated.

Jackson Marseilles led the Goblin team with a round of 77. Logan Greer posted an 86, Nick Schriner a 94 and Seth Sweatman a 102.

Price and his team came up with a plan to be effective on a very difficult course. That plan helped the Goblins win their 12th straight title.

“The biggest difference was we had a plan for this course,” Price said. “We pretty well carried out the plan which was to keep the ball in play off the tee.”

It wasn’t just the plan that helped the Goblins win. The play of all four players made the championship a reality.

“The biggest thing for us was Nick and Seth playing how they did,” commented the coach. “They’ve worked hard. I’m proud of how they performed.”

Price also made a point to praise his two seniors for things they have done both on and off the course.

“Jackson and Logan really took Nick and Seth under their wings in practice,” Price stated. “I give a lot of credit to Jackson and Logan for taking the initiative to work with them. That made the difference. Getting help from two guys who have been there before. It was good to see. I love the leadership our seniors showed in doing that.”

Price credits senior leadership for the Lady Goblins victory as well.

Senior Emilie Arnold posted a score of 95 to lead Harrison. Lane Horn added a 98 and Thea Norcross a 139.

“The girls hung in there and played really well,” the coach told. “Emilie could have been 5, 6, 7 shots better. She had a couple bad holes. Lane had a couple bad holes. But, they stayed with it and played well.
“Those two girls have put in a lot of hard work,” he continued. “Especially Emilie because she’s a senior. She is the leader of our team.”

Price also pointed out the play of his freshman, Norcross, was something the Lady Goblins needed.

“Thea did what she needed to do,” he said. “We needed her to step up and play varsity because without her, we don’t have a team. When she finished her round I asked her how she did and she said, ‘I didn’t really play well, but I had fun.’ That’s ultimately why we play this game. Our attitudes were really good yesterday.”

Price praised the attitudes of all of his golfers on how they supported each other.

“Everybody supported everybody,” he said. “That was great to see. It was a difficult test. We persevered and tried to do our best.”

The Lady Goblins will now head to the Class 5A State Tournament at Hot Springs Country Club on Wednesday.

Harrison’s boys will head to Jonesboro on Oct. 5 to tee it up at RidgePointe Country Club.
