For the first time this season, the Harrison golf team fielded a varsity girls squad in a match.
It proved to be a winning formula as the Harrison girls defeated Springdale Har-Ber, 301-305.
The Goblins didn’t find the same success on the course as Har-Ber picked up the victory, 339-359.
Leading the way for the Harrison girls was Lane Horn who posted a round of 92 with Emilie Arnold shooting a 93.
Thea Norcross rounded out the team score with a 120.
Allie Tramell and Elle Shairrick posted 9-hole rounds with Tramell shooting a 59 and Shairrick a 63.
Harrison head coach Don Price was pleased with his team’s performance, but knows they can play better.
“They did okay,” he started. “Emilie and Lane can play better than they did. They can both shoot in the 80s. If they do that, I think we can be competitive as a team at the district tournament.
“I’m really proud of Thea,” Price continued. “She wasn’t real pleased with her round. Inside 50 yards, we left a lot of shots on the green. We’ll have to work on our wedges and our putting. But, I was proud of the way she played.”
The Goblins fell to Har-Ber, 339-359.
Jackson Marseilles posted the low score for Harrison with a 74. Logan Greer added an 80, Seth Sweatman a 102, Nick Schriner a 103 and Gavin Ray a 121.
Brady Billings added a round of 107 while Toby Lefebvre shooting a 117.
“We can play better,” Price said of the boys team. “We left a lot of shots out there on the course. There are things that we could have done better. And, there were things that we did well.
“Seth and Nick did better keeping the ball in play off of the tee,” he continued. “Inside 50 yards is where we left a lot of shots out there. We need to improve our short game.”
Despite losing the match, Price still feels confident his team will be competitive when the district tournament comes around.
“If we can stay under 340, that would be a good goal for us to be competitive at districts,” the coach stated. “Jackson and Logan played okay, but they can both play better. Logan just didn’t have his best day. That happens in this game.”
