HARRISON BASEBALL VS. HUNTSVILLE

HUNTSVILLE — The Eagles of Huntsville were undefeated at home on the baseball diamond prior to Harrison visiting on Monday night. The 4A-1 showdown between the Goblins and Eagles ended in a seven-inning affair with Harrison taking a 10-2 win. Harrison sits atop the conference standings with an undefeated 7-0 record and one game remaining on the schedule. Colton Shaver opened the game on the bump for the Goblins and recorded 10 strikeouts with no walks. Harrison head coach Greg Crow commented on his junior pitcher, “It was a great day for Shaver on the mound, it was really good to see.” Harrison’s offense increased as the night progressed. The Goblins put one run on the board in the second inning that was matched in the bottom of the inning by the Eagles. It was the fourth inning before any more offense affected the score. Harrison added two runs in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead and never looked back. Another three Goblin runs were added in the fifth and four runs in the sixth as Harrison held a 10-1 advantage entering the bottom of the sixth inning. Huntsville managed to get a runner around the bases in the sixth to get within, 10-2, but the Goblin defense shut them out the rest of the way. Neither team added a run in the final inning as Harrison cruised to a 10-2 victory. Crow stated, “I’m really proud of our kids, Huntsville is a really tough place to win. I thought we went over there and took care of business.” Of the 10 runs that Harrison put across home plate, Goblins sophomore Breckin Duck batted in five of those. Dylan Block was credited for three RBI and Thailer Lovell and Cy Madden drove in one apiece. Cole Keylon crossed the plate for three runs in the ballgame. Lovell scored twice and Tanner Tayler, Carson Journagan, Shaver, Duck and Gabe Huskey each registered one run. Taylor, Block and Shaver each swiped a base in the contest. Shaver’s win on the mound encompassed 5.2 innings of work allowing two runs on seven hits while retiring 10 batters. Duck earned the save pitching 1.1 innings with one hit and two strikeouts. “I’m really proud of all our guys and our at bats throughout the game, I though we were locked in from the get go,” Crow noted about his team. “It’s a big win for us because it assures us a home game next week in the conference tournament.” Harrison takes its three-game winning streak to Shiloh Christian on Friday to finish the regular season. Shiloh Christian currently sits at second place with a 5-1 conference record and 14-5 overall.
