HARRISON BASEBALL VS. GRAVETTE

A baseball game can get out of hand in a hurry when the bats get hot. Jack Williams Field showcased Harrison scoring run after run in the fourth inning as the Goblins scored a 13-3 conference win over the Lions of Gravette on Tuesday evening. The scoreboard was full of zeroes until the bottom of the fourth when Harrison got the bats in its hands. advertisement Cole Keylon led off the inning with a stand-up double to the right-center field wall. Carson Journagan then laid down a successful bunt to advance Keylon to put runners on the corners. Breckin Duck followed with a line drive into the gap in left-center for a double while scoring both runners to put the Goblins ahead, 2-0, with no outs. Thailer Lovell and Cy Madden were walked on back-to-back appearances at the plate to load the bases. A pitching change for the Lions didn’t help matters. Tyler Hutchinson took the third pitch on the left shoulder to get an RBI and send Duck home while keeping the bases loaded. Colton Shaver followed by turning the first pitch into a ground ball to left-center field and kept the base paths stirring up dust as Lovell and Madden scored to put Harrison ahead, 5-0. Tanner Taylor was later hit by a pitch to load the bases again with no outs. Trey Richardson’s third plate appearance of the game resulted in a Texas leaguer that scored all three runners and finished with Richardson beating the tag with a slide into third base. Harrison then led by an 8-0 score with no outs. Keylon began another rotation of the order by taking first base on balls. Journagan followed with a hard-hit ground ball and reached first on an error by the shortstop. Richardson scored on the play and Keylon moved to second. Keylon later stole third base while Journagan stole second. Both runners later advanced on a wild pitch with Keylon scoring Harrison’s tenth run of the inning with no outs. Duck’s next at bat featured a hit that dropped into left-center field that sent Journagan across home plate. Sloan Barrett came into the game as a pinch runner for Duck. Barrett stole second and third base before Harrison’s next two batters, Lovell and Madden, were both walked to load the bases. Lovell swiped second base during Madden’s at bat. Gravette’s fourth pitcher of the inning then took the mound. The pitching change resulted in Hutchinson hitting a sacrifice fly into center field that scored Barrett to put the Goblins ahead, 12-0. Lovell was thrown out stealing third to account for the second out of the inning and a high hit foul ball by Shaver was caught by the Lion defense for the third out. Gravette was able to score two quick runs to get within, 12-2. The Lion’s two-hole hitter was then walked with a runner on third and two outs. The runner on first was then caught in a run down and called out but not before the third run came across the plate as Gravette was able to avoid the mercy rule and keep the game alive, trailing 12-3. Harrison picked up right where they left off. Taylor hit a blooper into right field to get on base and then stole second to put the winning run in scoring position. Trey Richardson was then walked. Keylon hit a hard grounder straight to the first baseman for the first out, but it advanced both runners. Journagan proved to be the final batter of the night by sending a two-strike pitch up the middle for a walk-off hit that sent Taylor home for the winning run. Shaver got his third win of the year on the mound and improved to 3-1. He pitched all five innings allowing three runs on two hits while walking four batters and striking out three. Keylon, Journagan and Taylor each scored two runs in the ballgame. Duck, Lovell, Madden, Hutchinson, Shaver, Richardson and Barrett each added one run. Richardson and Duck each tallied three RBI. Shaver hit in two runs and Journagan and Hutchinson had one RBI apiece. Harrison (12-2, 4-0) played Pottsville on Wednesday in non-conference action and travel to Prairie Grove on Monday with first pitch set for 5 p.m.
