HARRISON VS. SPRINGDALE SOFTBALL

SPRINGDALE — Dust off the lawn chairs and grab a blanket because softball season has arrived. Harrison began action on the softball diamond Friday when the season kicked off at Springdale. The Lady Goblins made quick work of the Lady Bulldogs only needing three innings to take an 18-3 win. Harrison’s jayvee team was defeated by a 6-5 mark despite a grand slam from sophomore Emily Utt. advertisement Lead-off batter Sam Fancler opened the varsity ballgame by being walked after facing a full count. Ty Whitehorse then stepped up to the plate and hits a two-run homer to get Harrison on the board early, 2-0, with no outs. Kaylee Wolfe was next in line and worked her way around the bases after reaching on an error. Springdale was able to tie the game at 3 apiece in the bottom of the first period. Harrison went right back to work sending runners around the bases. Madison Berry was sent to first base from a base on balls. She crossed home plate after Fancler was walked for the second time of the game and Wolfe reached base. Claire Curtis then drove in Fancler and Wolfe for a couple RBI. Lexi Norris and Camryn Casey then reached on a hit each and later scored along with Curtis. Berry found her way back on base and scored the final run of the second inning to put the Lady Goblins ahead, 10-3. Harrison shut down the Lady Bulldogs in the second inning when Rylie Yarborough struck out the first two batters before giving up a hit and forcing the next batter into a ground ball to put the bats back in the hands of the Lady Goblins. Harrison never got a hit in the third inning but Springdale pitching still put 10 Lady Goblins on base. Eight batters crossed the plate in the top of the third to give Harrison a 15-run lead entering the bottom of the inning. Springdale managed to get two runners on base before two-straight fly outs. Youngblood then struck out the final batter to give Harrison an 18-3 mercy rule win. Fancler, Wolfe and Berry each scored three runs in the win for the Lady Goblins. Whitehorse, Curtis, Norris and Casey added two runs apiece and Brook Morgan one. Youngblood was the winning pitcher with four strikeouts and three runs in three innings pitched. Harrison is scheduled to host Valley Springs on March 11. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m. on Cavender’s Field at the Equity Bank Sports Complex.
