HARRISON TAKES DOUBLEHEADER FROM CLARKSVILLE

As the regular season begins to wind down, a baseball team with a winning streak and good defense helps the fans cheer a little bit louder. Harrison currently has a three-game winning streak and has only allowed two runs during that time span. The Clarksville Panthers visited the Equity Bank Sports Complex on Friday evening to face off in a doubleheader against the Goblins. Harrison took both games and the Goblin fans were in good spirits. The Arkansas Good Sportsmanship Rule was put into effect in the first game with Harrison winning 10-0. The second game went the distance and the Goblins defeated the Panthers, 10-2. Harrison 10, Clarksville 0 It was a perfect day for baseball, plenty of sunshine and a slight wind blowing toward left field. Harrison took advantage of the nice weather and put away Clarksville in five innings, 10-0. Harrison entered the bottom of the fifth inning with the lead, 4-0. The Goblins were ready to expand that advantage. Tanner Taylor led off for Harrison and after four pitches he found the one he wanted. Taylor connected on his swing and sent the ball into the bushes on the other side of the left field wall for a home run. That brought up Carson Journagan who settled for the first pitch and came up a few inches short of going over the same wall. Journagan’s hit got him easily to second. Later, he stole third base. Breckin Duck got the call to lay down a bunt in his at bat. It was executed perfectly to get him to first before the throw, and he picked up a RBI as Journagan made his way home. Freshman Trey Richardson came in to pinch-run for Duck. Garrett Underdown then reached base for the second time of the day after a chip-shot that dropped into center field that moved Richardson to second. Keeton Brown kept the momentum going for Harrison with a grounder to the shortstop that was fumbled. It moved Brown to first, loading the bases. Cole Keylon recorded two RBI after sending a pitch up the middle and into the outfield. Richardson and Underdown each scored on the Keylon hit to move the score to 8-0. On the next play, Brown and Keylon both advanced with stolen bases. Colton Shaver ended the game with a hit into the outfield that scored Brown and Keylon. Taylor had a shutout win for Harrison pitching 4.0 innings allowing four hits and striking out three batters. Damian Ireland pitched the fifth inning, striking out one and allowing no hits. Keylon, Taylor and Brown each scored twice in the Goblin’s win. Shaver, Journagan, Underdown and Richardson each crossed home plate once each. Harrison 10, Clarksville 2 The sun began to set for the nightcap but Harrison kept the bats warm for the back-end of the doubleheader with another win, 10-2. Harrison got on the board early with Shaver making his way around the bases for a run in the first. The second inning is when the Goblins did their damage. Duck led off with a double to left field and sophomore Brett Rider followed-up with a single up the middle. Richardson was then walked to load the bases. Freshman Noah Moix was later hit by a pitch, sending Duck in for the second score of the ballgame. A wild pitch brought Rider to home plate for a run, advancing Richardson and Moix. Shaver kept swinging the bat and got a hit that dropped into center field for a single. With the hit, Richardson scored and Moix moved to third. Taylor hit a sacrifice fly to center that scored Moix and the Goblins had a 5-0 lead. Journagan continued Harrison’s scoring efforts with a line drive down the left line that would score Shaver and got him to second. Thailer Lovell then hit a grounder that got by the third baseman and Journagan crossed home plate for the final run of the inning and a 7-0 advantage. Clarksville was able to get two runs in the third, but that was all the Goblin defense would allow for the night. Shaver, Journagan and Brown combined for three more runs in the bottom of the sixth after Duck sent the ball deep into the outfield to score all three runners. Richardson’s 4.0 innings pitched got him the win for Harrison allowing two runs on two hits and striking out one batter. Brown pitched 2.0 innings, striking out one batter and allowing no hits. Ty Phillips finished the night on the mound, pitching the seventh inning allowing only one hit. Shaver led the scoring for the Goblins with three runs. Journagan scored twice in the nightcap. Lovell, Duck, Rider, Richardson and Moix each crossed home plate once during Harrison’s second win of the night. The Goblins play Alma in a doubleheader on Tuesday night at Jack Williams Field. The first pitch is at 5 p.m.
