YOUNG TRAVELING ACROSS TOWN

Harrison Goblin basketball fans won’t have to travel far to see one of its graduating seniors play next year. Skyler Young of Harrison signed his national letter-of-intent to play next season at North Arkansas College. Attending Northark was an easy choice for Young. "I wanted to go to a smaller campus, and I really wanted to play basketball at Northark," he said. "I really like the coaching staff and the team is great and very welcoming. My family likes that I will be home for another year, and they will still get to see me play. When at Northark, Young will be moved to small forward. Making the transition from high school to Northark is sometimes hard for students, but Young thinks he is prepared. "With Northark being a smaller campus, I think it will be an easy transition. I took some classes at Northark this year." There are a few things that Young will need to accomplish a successful college career. "I really need to work on my time management and study habits," said Young about preparing for college academics. While at Northark Young plans to major in business. "I am not sure what I want to do at this time," said the senior. "I feel a business degree will give me many opportunities." Basketball has always been a passion for Young. "It is fun," he said. "Playing makes me feel free like I can do anything." While on the court, Young has learned many lessons. "It has taught me about leadership and teamwork," said Young. "It has taught me to be a good winner and good loser." Young has honed his skills to basketball. It is his only sport. "I don't play and other sports," he said. "I tried other sports when I was young, but I really loved basketball." Young has been an All-Conference and All-State player this season for the Goblins. Leaving Harrison and traveling 3 miles to Northark is not a long drive, but leaving Harrison High School means that Young will be leaving the students that he grew up with. "I will miss high school basketball and my coaches," he said about leaving Harrison High School. "However, a lot of my friends are going to Northark, so that will make it easier." Young, who is the son of Rick and Cheri Young and the younger brother of Jace and Lance. The Goblin realizes that he could accomplish his athletic dreams without support of many people. "I would like to thank my family for loving and supporting me," he said. "They hauled me all over the state so I could play every summer. "Also, I would like to thank all of my coaches," he continued. "Randy Rose for believing in me when no one else did and giving me the opportunity to play and get better. I would like to thank my Harrison coaches: David Stahler; Todd Richardson; and Wesley Corkins for always pushing me to improve."
